Program
Jewel Goddard introduced our program speaker, Michael Fenton.  Mike is the Juvenile Court Administer for Thurston County.  He began working with the county as a juvenile probation counselor in 1983.  He also has served as a unit supervisor and manager of the probation department.  Thurston County Juvenile Court provides legal intervention for youth up to 18 years of age who have been charged with criminal activity and/or been arrested.

The number of children housed in Thurston County’s Juvenile Detention Facility reached an all-time low last year, with an average of fewer than 15 juveniles held there each day.  That represents a 75% reduction since 1998.  At that time, the county began tracking daily populations and looking for ways to implement programs that could be tracked for effective outcomes.  Programs were adopted that were proven to work nationally and internationally.  The courts developed case management and risk assessment programs designed to get children into the right programs.  The programs combat substance abuse and address mental health issues, family problems and academic difficulties.  Mike also shared the success of the Garden Program. It was a very inspiring program!

Mr. Snappy
Neil DeBoer won a $30 gift certificate to Drees donated by Renetta Wilson.
