  • Carol Murphy - Hosted her first Rotary dine around dinner and highly recommends the experience to those who haven’t yet. 
  • Mark Elliot - Reported that he spoke with Kim Dinsmore who is half way through chemo treatment and doing well.
  • Sarah Clinton - Offered her birthday bucks.
  • Tore Nielsen - Shared that his family member placed well in downhill skiing competition at the Olympics in South Korea.
  • Craig Ottavelli - Said that he is sorry have to been absent lately and is glad to be back.
  • Holly Mason - Is proud of her grandson who, at only sixteen years old, has relocated to Portland to pursue his dream to perform ballet at the highest level.  He is currently performing in a fun adaptation of Alice in Wonderland.  A member of the Heck family is hosting him in their home.
  • Warren Carlson - Shared information about an upcoming Conservation District Board election happening in two days. 
  • Wendy Holden - Just returned from a vacation in Mexico and gave $100 in memory of her dog Ginger. 
Paul Harris Dinner
Paul Harris recognition was presented and president Christy remind everyone of the upcoming Paul Harris dinner in March.
Yelm Bowling Tournament
Yelm Rotary Club is requesting a team for their April 9 tournament in Yelm.  We will be seeking four volunteers for the team and will check with the exchange students also.
Scholarship Committee
Mark Boyer with the Scholarship Committee announced that the club is establishing a $2,000 scholarship with South Puget Sound Community College that will be based on financial need, first generation students, and single parents.
Harlequin Ticket Auction
Gloria Strait auctioned Harlequin Theater tickets for The Art of Racing in the Rain.  Won by Caroline Manger for $90.
Club 100-Year Celebration
Rusty Chalmers asked members to complete a Survey Monkey to provide input on service projects and goals for the 100-year celebration of our club which is coming in 2020.
New Member Induction
Jim Leonard introduced Ben Wilson as our newest club member.  Ben is regional director for Kaiser Permanente in our area.  He is a Timberline graduate, Eagle Scout, and University of Minnesota alumnus.  He has served 10 years in the US Army with assignments in Afghanistan and Iraq.  He is married with two boys and enjoys triathlons, swimming and skiing. Dennis Peterson announced Ben’s Rotary membership number of 1,302,012.  Welcome Ben!
Program: Olympia Parks, Arts, and Recreation
Chuck Fowler introduced Sylvana Niehuser, Park Stewardship Supervisor for the Olympia Parks, Arts and Recreation department.  The department was founded in 1998.
Sylvana shared that Olympia manages 48 parks with 1.75 fulltime equivalent positions for stewardship and two fulltime park rangers and four seasonal park ranges.
She oversees their volunteer program, environmental education and ranger programs.
One of the parks managed by the department is Rotary Point – West Bay Park which was created by a collaborative effort of nine local Rotary Clubs which contributed over $300,000 and more than 2,000 volunteer hours.
