Program: Rotarian Adventures through Russia – Steve and Judy Henderson

In September 2019 Steve and Judy participated in the first Rotary District to District Friendship Exchange to Russia. The member(s) and their family pay their own way to travel to and from the location of the exchange. There were 11 who participated from our district, 7 Americans and 4 Canadians. They stayed with 4/5 different Rotarians for about 4/5 nights each. After the first exchange, the hosts in the other country then travel to the other district to complete the exchange. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the visit from the Russian Rotarians will be rescheduled.

Russia, the entire country, is one Rotary District. With most of the population in the Western part of the country. This was the third Friendship Exchange that Steve and Judy have participated in. The trip covered several major cities: Moscow, Kostroma, Kazan, Saint Petersburg and Novgorod. The trains were exceptionally efficient, clean, ran on time and the group found that all other modes of transportation were just as efficient and well run. There are only 1,100 members of Rotary in Russia. Rotary only came to Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Steve and Judy shared a power point presentation that highlighted each of the cities they visited, their hosts, the clubs and the tours they took part in. After the presentation, they answered questions from club members.
